Los Cabos, located on the southern tip of Baja California Sur, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez, is a thriving tourist destination that has only recently gained international attention. From November to April, whale pods can be in the distance from these beaches. Hotel resorts have sprung up along this coastline in the blink of an eye, complete with luxury spas and golf courses rated among the best in the country.

1 El Arco de Cabo San Lucas
Without a doubt, the first thing you should do in Los Cabos is book a boat trip to Land’s End, which is near San Lucas. The point where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean is sinuous granite rock formations. The eponymous arch is a circular natural portal, and you’ll be able to walk through it if the tides cooperate.
2 Cabo Pulmo National Park
Divers will want to visit this marine reserve, but you could also pack a snorkel and fins and drive northeast from San Lucas or San José. You’ll be completely off the grid in this remote area, which is half the fun. The coast alternates between massive granite headlands and gentle coves, while the interior is all big skies and cacti. The national park was to protect a chain of coral reefs, and even if you only snorkel, the sea life in these waters is astounding. At times, you may find yourself surrounded by shoals of fish.

3 Playa del Amor
The granite rocks that form “El Arco” frame the north-facing beach on Land’s End, Playa del Amor. If you need more space to stretch out, the named Playa del Divorcio is behind you and is the Pacific surf. Bathing is not permitted on this side, but there is a wide stretch of sand and the sunsets are spectacular.

4 Todos Santos
Todos Santos is a traditional town northwest of Los Cabos, across the Sierra de la Laguna mountain range, that has been designated a “Pueblo Mágico” by Mexico’s Tourism Secretariat. This is due in large part to the painted one-story houses, upmarket restaurants, and arts and crafts shops located near the main Plaza del Pueblo. The whitewashed mission is on the south side of the square, and on the western frontage is an Art Deco cinema from 1944. The beaches of Todos Santos are in the Pacific, and while this isn’t ideal for swimming, surfers will be well aware of the quality of the breaks.

5 Playa Santa María
Playa Santa Maria is a crescent-shaped cove defended by two promontories that you’ll never want to leave. Because of this, even when other beaches are choppy, Playa Santa Maria is usually calm and clear. Playa Santa Maria, like the rest of the Los Cabos Corridor, has seen an increase in construction. What was once a dirt track has been a new bathroom and a parking lot. Even when boatloads of snorkelers arrive early in the afternoon, the beach still has an undiscovered feel as of early 2018.
6 Playa el Chileno
Playa el Chileno, another spectacular beach on the Corridor, rivals Santa Mara in beauty and has only recently developed. It’s an east-facing public beach on a slight spit of land, with a boardwalk leading down from the parking lot. Enough sea life in the bay’s shallow waters is astounding, and on calmer days, the sea is clear enough that you won’t need snorkeling equipment to see the fish darting around your legs. The beauty of Playa el Chileno is its seclusion, but this means no bars or restaurants, so bring a picnic and a parasol.
