Haloa Movies
In Haloa Movies, Decemberpaulreuters looks at the best and worst of Philippine cinema in 2017.
Haloa Movies is a monthly column by Decemberpaulreuters that looks at the best and worst of Philippine cinema. This month, we take a look at some of the biggest highlights and lowlights from 2017.
Highlight: “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank”
This film has been hailed as one of the best Filipino horror movies in recent years, and for good reason. It’s creepy, suspenseful, and very well-made. The acting is top-notch too — definitely worth watching if you’re into horror movies.
Lowlight: “Kambal Ka Magkakaibigan”
While it may be popular with Filipinos abroad, this romantic comedy isn’t very good in terms of writing or directing. There are also many inconsistencies in the plot that make it difficult to follow. Plus, some scenes are quite cheesy and not up to par with what viewers come to expect from Filipino films.
Couchtunerhub
Couchtunerhub is a new Facebook app that lets you tune into live TV streams on your couch. The app is available on both the iPhone and Android platforms, and can be used to watch live or past broadcasts from ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, the CW, PBS, and various other networks. Couchtunerhub also includes a “My Shows” tab that lets you keep track of your favorite broadcasts and save them for later.
The app is free to download on the App Store and Google Play, and it supports AirPlay so you can stream content to Apple TV or Google Chromecast devices. Couchtunerhub also includes a “Watch Now” button that will start streaming the current broadcast once it becomes available.
Couchtunerhub has already garnered some positive reviews from users. Critics say that the app could use more channels (it currently supports ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, PBS, and various other networks), but overall they seem pleased with how it works. Couchtunerhub is an interesting addition to Facebook because it gives users another way to stay connected while watching television – something that can often be difficult to do when using traditional television services.

Afdah, the financial advisor for Muslims, updated its Facebook page on Monday with a stern warning to Muslims who are not following Islamic finance principles. “If you’re not doing your part by following Islamic finance principles, you’re putting your money at risk,” Afdah said in a post. “Islamic finance is built on trust and transparency, so don’t let your guard down.” The post comes after reports surfaced that some Muslim-owned banks are being investigated for allegedly violating Sharia laws.
